My husband and I like to tease each other, and on more than one occasion he’s accused me of not being romantic. He’s even gone as far as to say, “Aren’t you the romance writer?”
What? Mwah, not romantic? How dare he!
Well, actually he has a point. We’ve been married for over twenty years. I’ll be the first to admit I get lazy in the romance department. I don’t want to take him for granted, but the non-stop rush of each day tends to sap the motivation out of me. Nothing sounds better than flipping through a magazine or playing a few rounds of Candy Crush after a long day.
Let’s face it, romantic gestures take effort. And sometimes they’re kind of scary. We wonder if they’re silly or will be appreciated. The expense, even a small amount, can feel not worth it.
I’ve really inspired you to go out and get romantic after that speech, huh? Just keeping it real…
But wait, I’m not discouraging romantic gestures. I think they’re vital to a relationship. Every time my husband goes out of his way to let me know he cares, my heart smiles and I get a rush. It never gets old! And I want to reciprocate.
I’m keeping my eyes open for little things I can do to let my hubby know I think he’s the most incredible guy on the planet. If I can find time to put away the laundry each week, I can certainly find time to show him I care.
What are your favorite romantic gestures? Please share! I need all the help I can get!
Have a terrific Thursday!
Sometimes I cook a favorite meal…or surprise him with a dessert. 🙂 low calorie, of course.
Ooh, I like the idea of surprising him with dessert! I have a few great recipes I could break out! Thanks!!
Quality time is one of my husband’s love languages and so every once in a while I’ll surprise him by agreeing to tag along on an errand he has to do in town. I’d rather sit at home and read but … this little act seems to make him happy. We celebrate twenty years this year and in my opinion it’s the little gestures that keep the fire of love stoked.
I agree–the little things are so important. You’ve inspired me–I will take one for the team and go to Home Depot! Haha! Thanks, and congrats on 20 years!

My husband is the prince of romantic gestures. I, on the other hand, had to read a book on writing romance … that should tell you something! LOL. Is there something special you do for your spouse? What is something sweet they do for you that reminds you of just how loved you are?
My hubby is sooo good about taking care of our home, yard and vehicles. Every time he takes my car for an oil change, I melt. Is that weird? It’s true!!
Bet he’d love a smile, squeeze of the hand, and a brief, but heartfelt shoulder rub
All sound great to me! And they’re free! Thank you!
My husband starts my car in the winter. Most romantic thing ever!
That IS super romantic!! What a sweetheart! (Stay warm–it’s freezing here!!)
I can tell you what my hubby does for me that just makes me feel very special and appreciated….i work the night shift and in the mornings when i get home from work he is usually gone for the day to his day job….i walk into the bedroom and he has turned down the blankets for me on my side of the bed….such a simple thing but it truly makes my heart happy 🙂 This is just one of the many many wonderful things he does for me. I, on the other hand, always keep his coffee (keurig) supply stocked and make sure he always has his honey and heavy cream for his coffee. I also try to make his mornings a bit easier on the nights that i work by making the kids’ lunches and swtting out clothes. For us its always the little things that make us know that the other is appreciated 🙂
How sweet is that?? I agree–it’s wonderful to see those little things that show they care. Don’t we all just want to feel appreciated and loved? Thanks for sharing your gestures, Jennifer!
