I have so much respect for the men and women who serve in uniform. From police officers, firefighters, and other first responders to military and National Guard servicemen and women. I write often about navy SEALs, police officers, and FBI agents.
With the holidays so rapidly approaching, I’m especially reminded of servicemen and women who can’t be home with their loved ones. You know that Josh Groban “I’ll be Home for Christmas” rendition with the voiceovers from military families? It plays on the radio all through the month of December and makes me want to weep!

So you can imagine if thinking about the separation makes my heart break, seeing a reunion just makes me sob. I recently saw this video where children are surprised by their parents’ return from serving abroad, and there was no holding back the tears. If a picture is worth a thousand words, these videos could fill an entire book. For the sons returning to their moms and the little girls seeing their dads, these are such special moments! And they tug on all of my heartstrings and remind me why they deserve our gratitude.
