Writing Foundation – Building On The Rock

As writers we are told to have a strong story structure, build our platform and develop a strong premise. We roll up our sleeves and throw ourselves into the tasks at hand, determined to succeed.

If we do all of these things, our story potential grows exponentially.

What about the premise of your writing life? Is it built on a strong foundation?

“Do not tremble; do not be afraid.

Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago?

You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?

No! There is no other Rock — not one!” (NLT)

Is your writing life built on The Rock?

The writing life is full of ups and downs, but there is one thing that never changes. The Rock.

When you stroll the beach and the waves beat roll in, you can feel the sand sifting out from under your toes into the surf.

The waves of the writer’s life beat against the foundation we are standing on. If the foundation you are standing on is sand, it will slip out from under you and be pulled into the current of life. Before you know it you will be tossed to and from on the waves.

When difficult times and rejection come your way or success leads you to forget the Source, your writing life will fall apart.

The strength of our stance is not in firm muscle and strong resolve, but in the position of our feet.

God has proclaimed His purpose for our lives, but we must rely on Him, stand on His foundation if we are to discover everything He has for us.

Build the premise of your story and build the premise of your life on The Rock.

  1. We had a Hymn night at church tonight. Our music director told us a lot about Fanny Crosby…Almost every song she wrote talked about God being her foundation.
