God’s Refrigerator Art: Our Manuscripts

God loves us first. Our manuscript comes second. We sometimes think our value in Christ comes from what we accomplish, or in how God is able to use us for His kingdom.

Is it any wonder that we think if our manuscript isn’t a bestseller He will be disappointed?

There is nothing further from his mind. He just loves us. That’s it. No conditions, no prequalification process. He just loves us. Hard to accept sometimes isn’t it?

We work so hard to be worthy, to be what he wants us to be. It’s fine to try to be more like Christ, but it will never be enough that we won’t need him. That we won’t require his grace.

God uses our obedience to minister to others. So our labor of love over our manuscripts does matter. It is something that shows our love for Christ when we are obedient.

Let’s take it down to four year old terms.

One day my son brought me an art project. He had worked so hard on the art project, I was proud of his effort. I hung it on my fridge so we could enjoy it. But the project has nothing to do with my love for him and everything to do with his love for me.

See, I love my son because he is cute, smart, funny, completely amazing and because he is mine. I don’t love him because he makes me nifty art projects, although they make me smile

God loves you because you are His, not because you write beautiful manuscripts, although they make Him smile.

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take

great delight in you, He will quiet you with his love,

He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

God takes great delight in you. He loves you. He rejoices over you. What are your favorite verses about God’s love?
